How To Enter Recovery Mode (All iPhone Models) - 2024

Recovery mode is a feature that helps reinstall the iOS operating system when an issue arises. It allows for a clean install to fix problems, such as errors during updates, full storage, or the use of non-genuine parts. Sometimes, the device may enter Recovery mode automatically if it encounters a significant problem. Additionally, new iOS updates can be installed in this mode through iTunes or Finder.

How To Enter Recovery Mode Manually:

There must be a problem with the device or software for it to automatically enter Recovery mode. But Recovery mode can also be used to restore iPhone. Steps to manually enter Recovery mode:

iPhone 6s or earlier (including iPhone SE 1st generation, iPod touch 6th generation or earlier):

  1. Connect the device to a computer using a lightning cable.
  2. Press and hold Lock and Home buttons at the same time.
  3. Keep holding until you see the Recovery mode screen.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPod touch 7th generation: 

  1. Connect the device to an computer using lightning cable.
  2. Press and hold Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
  3. Keep holding until you see the Recovery mode screen.

iPhone 8 or later (including iPhone SE 2nd generation):

  1. Connect the device to a computer using lightning cable.
  2. Quick-press Volume Up button.
  3. Quick-press Volume Down button.
  4. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Recovery mode screen.

How To Exit Recovery Mode:

You just need to do a hard reset. To do this first disconnect the iPhone from computer. After disconnecting, hold down the Lock or Side button until Apple logo appears. iPhone 6s and earlier., you will also need hold down Home button. Your iPhone will exit from Recovery mode.
